History of the World Beer Pong Tour
World Beer Pong Tour, LLC is a company that promotes and produces beer pong tournaments throughout the United States and Canada.
Started in the Fall of 2006, the tour, then known as the 'New York Beer Pong Tour', originally began as a six-city stint through New York State giving out small cash prizes. The company started with the goal of legitimizing the sport of beer pong by hosting professional tournaments in local bars with a standardized set of rules. Instead of concentrating in one area, the WPT concept was to create a 'tour', traveling around to different cities, hosting tournaments, and awarding prizes.
Since its inception, the company has grown immensely, now spanning the country. To date, over $500,000 in cash and prizes has been awarded to the winners of our tournaments including our $25,000 2009 Atlantic City Tournament, $50,000 2010 Atlantic City Tournament, and many more to come!
Timeline
2005 - Sam started a weekly league with his college roommate at their on campus apartment at Marist College in Poughkeepise, NY.
2006 - The New York Beer Pong Tour was born. In October, Sam ran a 6 city tour in his Toyota 4 Runner with 6 tables and made stops in Rochester, Buffalo Binghamton, Poughkeepsie, Pleasantville and New York City.
2007 - The New York Beer Pong Tour continued with 27 Events broken up into three 9 city tours. The 1st Official Pong Mobile hit the road in Summer 2007.
2008 - The Tour continued with over 50 events in the New York area, The 2nd Official Pong Mobile hit the road in summer 2008. Neil Kapoor was hired full time as the Regional Tour Director for WPT.
2009 - The NY Tour became the World Beer Pong Tour with over 75 official events held on the east coast. 30 ‘Affiliate Venues’ also ran ‘qualifiers’ thru WPT for the inaugural $25,000 Atlantic City Championship. WPT also hosted their first international event in Acapulco, Mexico.
2010 - WPT now has a presence in 2 countries, 18 states, and over 100 cities as we gear up for the $50,000 Atlantic City Championship in June 2010.
